Warm house, empty pockets

Remember the great thermostat debate of '08? I suppose I should have taken everyones advice and insisted that we lower the temp in the house by more than the one degree that we did. It got colder and colder and after Baby Harry (I'm trying out Harry) arrived it just felt so snuggly in our nice warm house that I did not leave for days on end. We got the Ameren bill. Let's just say that it was more than $300. I should have gotten a snuggie.

Just move on down south...I think my last elect. bill was $140.00. Our house is all electric...no gas...except of course for my hubby and son!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had the same problem after Luke was born last year. We had to keep the heat up in his room for naps and at bedtime because he couldn't have any covers and we couldn't lower the thermostat during the day because Holly was there with him. Plus, if you remember, there was quite a hike in electric rates last January, so we really got the hammer. I think we personally paid somebody's salary last year.

Equalizer! I may be paying for this month all year, but I won't even notice it.

Sarah,

I totally understand. I dont have any kids to keep warm, but my first winter in my house in Charleston kicked my butt.
It is crazy how expensive it is just to stay warm. I hope next month your electric bill does not take your breath away :)

I am just so happy my electric is flat rate up here, or I would be freezing my tush off...

Our gas bill was worse than normal ($278), we had spent about 70 more therms in January and our thermostat was never above 68, it just seemed like with all the really cold days, the furnace had to spend more time on. With Andrew working nights, there is never a time someone isn't home. Spring will get here, eventually!
