Have an environmentally friendly period

After reading the last post on the Farley Family blog, I felt like it was my duty as an environmentally friendly American to share this.

A few days ago while perusing ETSY (my favorite online shopping site) I came across a product I was unaware existed. Well, I figured they existed at some point, Caroline Ingalls had to have used something, but I did not know that people had taken the whole reduce, reuse, recycle thing to the point of using CLOTH WASHABLE MAXI PADS??!!! That's right. They make 'em and people buy them. I can only assume that means they are using them and rewashing them. Cloth diapers I can see, but wow, whoever is getting these things really does love the planet earth.

The selection is vast. Here are a few of my favs.
Basic white. Period.

I love to hunt. Can you see me? Period.

It really is the happiest place on earth. Period.

I support breast cancer research any way I can. Period.

I'm on fire. Period.

Still scared of frogs. Period.

Have a coke and a smile. Period.
Peace and love. Period.
These items are also pretty pricey. They run around $5.00 for just one! The good part about them is the large variety of fabrics available. For the Nascar fan, music lover, pirate, or soccer Mom, they have got it covered.
God Bless Mother Earth and the freak shows who buy these things.

Harrison and Jack

Some random pics of my two sons.
I can't believe that Harrison will be 5 weeks old on Wednesday.
I have been trying to do much better and take more pictures.
Both of my sisters got super fancy cameras for Christmas.
So fancy that I now know how Suri Cruise must feel.
I let them take over the holiday related type photos.
I assumed they would e-mail them to me.
Has not happened yet.

Baby it's warm outside

How strange is this weather?? 60 some degrees on Dec. 27th? It was 7 degrees earlier this week.

Damn you Al Gore and your crazy global warming.

It's over

Now the real fun begins.
Putting away the gifts.
Taking down the tree.
Throwing away the Christmas cards.
Feeling guilty and not throwing away the nice photo cards.
Trying to find a place to put the pretty photo cards.
Trying to eat all of the leftovers before they go bad.
Giving up on the leftovers and deciding just to try and save the cookies.
(The green bean casserole is on its own this year.)
Trying to retrain the 4 year old into the nice child he was before the birthday and Christmas gifts were showered upon him.
Yep, the fun part is just starting.

Christmas blessings

Last night, as I was up once again numerous times with the baby, and I was complaining in my mind about my lack of sleep, just begging God for more sleep, Harrison to sleep, my husband to hear the baby crying and get up, I realized how shitty I have been. Not getting enough sleep is my biggest problem? I have been complaining left and right because my perfectly healthy beautiful baby gets up at night to be fed? Last night I thought maybe I needed to look at things a little differently and count my blessings.

Yesterday I got an e-mail from a dear sweet woman who said all she wanted for Christmas was a phone call from her son who is in Iraq. She has talked to him through e-mail, but had not heard his voice for over a month.

Yesterday, Betsy and Olivia Riedle lost their husband and Father. The Riedle family lost a son and a brother. My heart hurts for the Riedle family and I know there are so many of us that are at a loss not knowing what to say or do, just wishing we could take their pain away.

Things could be so much worse.

This Christmas, please look around you. Be grateful for who and what you have. I am sure that I will continue to complain about my lack of sleep, but hopeful not as much. Perhaps I can even be grateful for it.

Merry Christmas.
Count your blessings.

Jack's pre-k program

Jack had his pre-k Christmas program last week. He REALLY got into the performance. I was so proud of my little show stopper!

~~~
by the way, I use my digital camera to take my videos. It's not because I don't have a video camera, I do and it is a very nice one. Cliff got it for me for Mother's Day last year (I think it was last year) and it inspired me to become the next Speilberg. I still don't know how to use it.
All I want for Christmas is.......
SLEEP!!!
I'm not selfish. I don't need 8 hours. 4 hours uninterrupted would be such a treat.
Pray for the Riedle family
Prayers for the Riedle family are needed.
Jack's birthday
Jack turned 4 on Saturday. Friday night we ate supper with my family at his favorite place to dine, JOE'S in Newton. Saturday we had lunch with the Kinkade side at the Tin Cup in Noble. He had a great birthday and got WAY to many presents. With Christmas coming, it seems that our new much larger house is growing smaller by the minute.
Jack chose an airplane cake
His basketball hoop from Mam and Bamp that he really "needed".
An Incredible Hulk costume from Aunt Bubba and her family.
He wants to wear it all the time.
Opening his gifts from Mommy and Daddy.
I really am still not so sure what this is, but he asked for it and seems to like it. It is some sort of a race car helmet with a Madonna type microphone attached.
Wearing his new helmet with the Hulk costume.
Harrison's Photographics pictures
Harrison went to visit his Auntie Amber last week at Photographics for his first in studio photo shoot.
The results have been posted on her website.
You can check them out here: http://www.photographicsgallery.net/p862132899
I think they are FABULOUS, but perhaps I am a little biased.
Thank you so much Amber, once again you did an awesome job!
Payton and Harrison
My niece Payton finally got to meet and hold her new cousin Harrison last Sunday.
Payton had been sick with the flu so she had to stay away from the baby.
Payton is just about old enough to babysit.
Everyone else, stay away!!!
A good sitter is hard to find and I claimed this one a long time ago!!!
Snow day
Thank you Jasper Unit #1 for your 6:00 am phone call announcing that there was no school.
If you read the post below, you will know that at 6:00 am I had been asleep for about an hour.
Your new fancy phone call system sure is nice. I get a call on my home phone and my cell letting me know school is cancelled.
I remember the good old days sitting in the kitchen eating breakfast with my sisters on a snowy winter morning just waiting for Greg and Larry from the Effingham radio station to add Jasper County schools to the list of cancellations. And, if all else fails you could always count on calling the time and temp number.
Now, we get the automated call. That EARLY morning automated call. The call that comes when you would pay a million dollars for 30 more minutes of sleep. That call that wakes you and your almost 4 year old out of a sleep that you can't get back.
HAPPY FREAKIN SNOW DAY
Murphy Brown rediscovered
Last night Harrison decided to spend 1:50 am until 4:15ish am wide awake. During that time Jack decided to wet the bed. While caring for the baby, changing Jack's pajamas and sheets, I found out MURPHY BROWN is on TV at 3:00 am on NICK at NITE! I always loved that show.
Nice to know that my lack of sleep can at least be filled with
some quality television from the 1990's.
See you tonight Candice Bergen.
Harrison
I am filled with guilt over the fact that I have not taken nearly enough pictures of Harrison. I am sure I took tons more of Jack. I am going to try to do much better.
Flat wallet winner
Congrats to Miss Ashley.
She was the winner of the flat wallet in my Christmas give away.
You can visit her blog here--- www.missashley2007.blogspot.com
Ashley choose I'll BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS as her favorite Christmas song (sadly, it was not available for me to put on my player). So appropriate since Ashley has spent the past 6 months in Alaska and will be coming home to Illinois over Christmas. Miss Ashley has plans to stop by and visit with us while she is home, so she can pick up her flat wallet then.
Congrats Ashley and we sure are glad that you get to make the trip home for the holidays (and not just in your dreams).
Thanks to all who entered and gave me some great ideas for Christmas songs to add to my blogs soundtrack. I tried to put all that I could find on.
Always the QUEEN
OPRAH, what's up???
Why did you need to tell us that you are fat??
I already was very aware.
Frankly, I could care less. In fact, I prefer my Oprah on the fat side.
You'll shoot your eye out
There's a house in Newton with at least three times more Christmas inflatable things in their yard (I'll work on getting a pic) than the one pictured above.
My Christmas wish is for a road trip with a BB gun.
Something for Nothing
I don't have my Christmas shoppping done. I don't have my tree up. Cards have not been ordered. It really does not even seem like the Christmas season to me. I need to get in the spirit.
Lots of people have beautiful Christmas templates on their blogs, but I can't change mine for fear of losing the cool custom designed one that I won. So, inspired by Tracie's Christmas bloggy give-away I decided that Sarah Sez needed to do one as well.
Here's the deal. I can't change my template, but I can add some Christmas music to my blog. You tell me what your favorite Christmas song is and I will add it to the soundtrack of my blog.
---mine is Feliz Navidad
Here's what you can win........your choice of a flat wallet from my purse site
SARAH SELLZ
keep it for yourself, or use it as a gift.
Leave me a comment, or two, with a fav Christmas song. You have until Friday afternoon at 4:00 and I will draw the winner (using a random number generator).
GOOD LUCK and Happy Holidays.
The post where I talk about breastfeeding
Things seem to be returning to a somewhat "normal" state around my house. Harrison is almost two weeks old. Time certainly does fly.
I breastfed Jack for the first 6 months of his life and had every intention of doing the same with Harrison, but things did not work out this go around so he is now a formula fed child. I gotta admit that it seems a lot easier to just give him bottles. I feel a little bit guilty that I am not breastfeeding him, but relieved that I will be able to go places and not have to worry about pumping and getting him fed in public. He seems to be doing well with the bottles and it sure is nice to just hand someone else a bottle to feed him.
Cliff has been sick with a cold and a fever since before Harrison was born. My Mother had taken off time from work to come and help me for a few days after we came home and Cliff went to work, she ended up deathly ill and in the hospital, so I missed out on my "Mom comes to help me days".
Friday night I ended up in the ER with an infection in my c-section incision. Everything was fine, I got antibiotics and was sent home. I arrived home around 11ish Friday night from the ER to a phone call from my sister Rebekah who was keeping Jack saying that Jack had woke up puking. She brought him home where he continued to puke off and on the rest of the night. I guess cold and fever trumps incision infection because I got very little sleep Friday night. I would get Harrison fed and back to sleep and Jack would wake up to vomit. I would clean him up and get him back to sleep and then go at it again with Harrison. Cliff slept through most of the night's drama.
Harrison is almost 2 weeks old and I have already lost at least 3 of his socks. His feet are so small that most of his socks fall off so I need to find the lost socks. I think the dryer ate them.
Movie Review
Dear Netflix:
Thank you for bringing this gem of a movie to my mailbox. It was so much better than I had hoped.
Since I already had a chest cold, the barking, chocking laughs that watching this movie gave me helped me expel the gross stuff that my lungs were filled with.
Douche and douchebag were already a big part of my vocab, but thanks to this movie I can now add and use DOUCHER as well.
I love you Netflix.
Your friend and loyal customer,
Sarah D
